Battlefield 3 vs. Modern Warfare 3 + Grand Theft Auto V?!

It's been a pretty busy day in the gaming world. Today was the launch of some of this fall's biggest games, including Battlefield 3, Kirby's Return to Dreamland, and DragonBall Z: Ultimate Tenkaichi. Even though RasterMasterGames won't be playing of this week's new releases there has been a debate that's been going on all through 2011 that I have the urge to address.

Throughout the development of both Battlefield 3 and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, the developers have been going back and forth to try and say which is the better game which game will sell better. The way that I currently see it is that both games are your run of the mill, modern era typical First Person Shooters (FPSs for those unfamiliar with certain game terminology). You are going to be given a short single player campaign (ranging from 6 to  hours) and then a massive multiplayer that will actually be the main chunk of the game.

It's sad to know that in this day and age there are people who only buy video games for the multiplayer. Now don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that multiplayer in video games is a bad thing, but it IS a bad thing when there are people buying the game just for that purpose. Now there are still plenty of games that treat multiplayer like it should be treated, a bonus for the players and something to do after a player has beaten the main campaign.

The multiplayer in the Battlefield series and the Call of Duty series is basically the same. You have your typical multiplayer match types such as Team Deathmatch, Domination, and Capture the Flag. Both games are going to have modes that the others don't, such as Battlefield's multiplayer mode where you get to use vehicle combat instead of just using your own soldier for all of the game modes. What this really is... is a battle between fanboys and the battle is over multiplayer.

The single player campaigns might as well not exist. Even though Modern Warfare 3 has yet to be released the fanboys are already going at each other and the sad part is that the developers are doing the same.  Instead of wishing each other good luck, because we all know that BOTH games are going to sell extremely well, they were bickering for months about whose game is going to better. I know that the gaming industry is all about competition but there should be a certain level of maturity expected out of the developers and developers for both games are clearly under this stated level.

But I digress, the only way to find out which game is truly better is to compare the reviews and the overall sales figures.

Now, even though the war between the FPSs is finally getting under way that isn't the only big piece of news that was reported today. Rockstar announced on their website that Grand Theft Auto V is currently in development and that a trailer will be posted next Wednesday! This is pretty big news as Grand Theft Auto IV was released in 2008 and actually recieved very high praise, even though this gamer couldn't get too into the game following how amazing I thought San Andreas was. Either way the gaming community is pretty pumped up about this game so I might as well be to!
